THE SAMMY PROJECT
ABOUT THE ARTIST
MY NAME IS WHITNEY EMORY YEAGER. I have two beautiful daughters, Haven and Madeleine, who are my reason for being and inspiration in life. I don’t know where I would be without them. And of course, my first child, Sam, who watches down on us now.
I was a professional photographer from 2007–2011, and it remains my true passion. I earned my Masters in Education in 2013 and was an educator for many years. I now work for Pearson in Clinical Assessments.
My goal is to make it socially acceptable to talk openly about our internal struggles—to encourage young people today to speak candidly about whatever mental health issues or illness they may be experiencing. A shift must be made where one’s diagnosis does not define a person but empowers them to recognize their strengths. That is the important lesson.
Thank you to Sammy for touching so many lives. Thank you to the brave participants for being vulnerable and showing up as your true authentic selves—with no blame, shame, or negativity. We all move forward by creating healthy spaces for others to shine.
